Course overview

The Applied Precision Crop Production course will examine the application of precision technologies in the crop management process and some of the associated software which allows for their implementation.

Precision crop production is the application of precision farming technologies to manage spatial and temporal variability for the purpose of improving crop performance and environmental quality. Precision farming has become established due to advances in technology which enable accurate geo-referencing, real-time data acquisition, sensing, telematics and variable rate application of inputs.

The course should allow for stand-alone delivery but would benefit if used along with the course Precision Farming Technology.

Please note that as Applied Precision Crop Production is not a core module within Harper Adams University’s postgraduate program this module will only run if there are 5 or more confirmed enrolments by Monday 6th May 2019.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the Applied Precision Crop Production course you will be able to:

  • Understand precision farming tools that can manage climatic, biological and mechanical variability.
  • Synthesise crop production and nutrient strategies which improve the use of inputs and optimise crop production outputs.
  • Evaluate and select precision farming equipment and crop management technology for the use of a wide range of precision applications.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the socio-economic impact of precision agriculture.

Course Dates
Course - 5 days - The course can be taken as a stand-alone training course but also makes up one of the optional courses of the Postgraduate Awards in Agrifood.
Entry Requirements
Graduate level or relevant experience within the agrifood industry.
IFST Membership
Your course enrolment also entitles you to one year of free membership to the IFST (Institute of Food, Science and Technology).
