Course overview

This course is aimed at individuals working to put agricultural research into practice i.e. Agronomists, Advisers, Technical Managers and Farmers. Course participants will benefit from a deeper understanding of the research process, a more thorough knowledge of current research in relevant areas and an ability to design and implement research experiments within their own organisations, as well as interpret research results.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of the program, participants will be able to:

  • Critically evaluate and communicate the principles of scientific research to investigate and analyse practical agricultural problems, including the use of statistics and presentation skills.
  • Acquire & articulate specialist taxonomic expertise to identify pests, weeds, and diseases in agricultural situations and demonstrate an understanding of their lifecycles and the agricultural importance of these
  • Compare the molecular mechanisms of, and critically evaluate the agricultural importance of, pesticide resistance in agriculturally important pests, weeds, and diseases.
  • Critically assess crop protection issues through the formulation of a hypothesis and independent research.
