Course overview

This five day short course course in Farm Business Resilience, based at Harper Adams University, Shropshire, has been tailored towards both University Graduates and also non-graduates, who hold relative experience in the agricultural sector.

This course is designed to enable people working within the food supply side to integrate financial and business knowledge with an understanding of current farming practices.

Please note that as Evaluation for Farm Business Resilience is not a core module within Harper Adams University’s postgraduate program this module will only run if there are 5 or more confirmed enrolments by Monday 1st October 2018.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this course you will be able to:

  • Review the major farming economic, technical and environmental issues in relation to the needs and practices of agriculture;
  • Evaluate the contributions made by the varied internal and external factors to the farm business management process;
  • Appraise the role of farm management in the context of business and critically assess the success of farm management policies and processes in a changing environment that requires future sustainability;
  • Review the range of objectives found in agricultural businesses and develop priorities for different business situations;
  • Apply and use a range of current analytical models and techniques relevant to strategic analysis, formulation and implementation;
  • Analyse the financial position of the farm business from audited accounts and understand the significance of performance analysis to farm business planning, control and organisation of business.

    Course Dates
    Course - 5 days - The course can be taken as a stand-alone training course.
    Entry Requirements
    Graduate level or experienced within the farm business environment. Participants with a limited agricultural background will be invited to attend a two day “introduction to UK agriculture” course prior to attending the course.
